System Of The Undead

Chapter 102: What Do You Want?

Chapter 102: What Do You Want?

Sam was alone in his room, he knew it was time to leave but part of him wanted to see the fate of this group.

He wanted to understand what would happen or what Clementine would do now that their time with these people was coming to an end.

Sam wasn’t bothered, he understood the risks that came with associating with others and the bigger they grew, the harder it was for them to travel through the streets undetected.

Sam took Allison on impulse, he had no use for her but there was no harm in a Specter joining them considering that they were low on fighting power.

Sam also knew that Allison would try to prove herself, he placed Bella with Rachel and co because he wanted to see how the child would process a person who was the source of his trauma.

Sam took out a walkie-talkie, something that even Clementine wasn’t aware that he had in his possession, he kept this information hidden.

Sam took out the walkie-talkie but not before adjusting the frequency.

"This is Sam, over..." Sam called out despite the static that the communication device produced. Sam didn’t even state his rank but judging from how he spoke, he was expecting a response.

"Delta, do you copy? Over," Sam asked and a response at the other end told him that his endeavour wouldn’t be in vain.

"Delta come in, have you established contact with the target?" The voice at the other end asked.

"Negative, I’m afraid that is a bust. It is just a boy that was bitten by another human. I’m afraid we have no lead. Over," Sam responded.

He was calm and one could tell by his tone that he was talking to a superior.

"Return to base, we have encountered a problem," The voice commanded.

"A problem big enough that the special force can’t handle? Over" Sam asked.

"You’re still part of the special force, Sam. Over," The voice said but Sam scoffed at the thought of this.

"I was... Now what is the problem Delta? Over," Sam asked, getting straight to the point.

He was a former special forces agent that was dismissed for unknown reasons but it was clear that his superior held him in high regard for them to contact him.

"We have encountered strong resistance approximately 6000 miles to the South of here. We don’t know what it is but my men can’t breach it. There shouldn’t be any reason as to why they can’t... Over," The voice said.

Sam raised a brow because this wasn’t adding up, there was no way that the military should have any resistance considering their superior artillery.

"Now that is interesting..." Sam thought to himself as it looked like there was something strong enough to resist the night of the military.

Sam understood the urgency and this was part of the reason he said that they were leaving tomorrow, he has been in contact with the base for quite some time.

Clementine was done showering and changing; she wondered where Jason was seeing as he hadn’t come back in and they also couldn’t have him wandering around as there were threats outside these doors.

The zombies weren’t as easy as they once thought, especially not with those that use their spit-like projectiles.

Jason was in no shape or condition to fight off a zombie and he needed to rest.

"Have you seen Jason?" Clementine asked Allison but she shook her head.

Clementine began to see him as her responsibility because Sam put her in charge of them even though he didn’t verbally say it, that was the only reason he would put her there.

Clementine took it upon herself to search for Jason but she didn’t need to do much.

The moment she opened the door, she saw Jason and Rachel talking but she knew this was potentially a moment as Rachel had her arms around Jason’s.

Clementine sighed as she quietly returned to the room, she had no plans of interrupting whatever that was.

Clementine began to hope that Sam was like that, having an active interest in women but she quickly took away that thought as Sam was showing symptoms of being a psychopath with no empathy.

There can be no relationship with someone that lacks empathy or at least this was what Clementine believed.

"Well, did you find him?" Allison asked.

"Yeah, he is outside with Rachel," Clementine responded.

"What’s their deal?" Allison asked. Clementine didn’t want to indulge in a conversation concerning another person’s life but she couldn’t resist the temptation.

"What do you mean?" Clementine asked, trying to play coy.

"Are they a thing or did they date?" Allison was straight to the point, she noticed their weird chemistry the moment she stepped into the car.

"How am I supposed to know?" Clementine asked but more importantly, how did Allison know?

There was no way that this was anything more than a guess, Clementine remembered seeing them together before they joined their company.

"The only person involved with Jason was Bella..." Clementine said but Allison didn’t look at all surprised by this.

"Typical Bella, she hops on any dick available," Allison rolled her eyes, her voice filled with judgment.

"You don’t seem to get along with her..." Clementine said; she had expertly inserted Bella into the conversation without arousing any suspicion from Allison.

"Bella is everything I hate about women, especially those that leverage their body as their only source of strength..." Allison said. Clementine wanted to know what kind of views Allison had because it would ultimately give her a glimpse into the kind of person that she was.

"I get you. Women have been reduced to nothing more than their bodies, I faced discrimination even in the military but Sam never looked at me with belittling eyes, I think that’s why I clung to him," Clementine responded, trying to strike a chord with her to establish that they held similar views when it came to such matters.

"That’s why I also became a Specter, it was to prove to myself that I could," Allison said.

"But Bella... She was a constant reminder of everything that I hated," Allison said.

Clementine understood what was happening the more she spoke, this was a typical case where ideals clashed.

Clementine saw nothing wrong with Bella’s lifestyle as sex has always been used as some sort of bargaining chip, even in the old times either to get commitment or something else.

"Waoh! Those are some pretty strong ideals but you know men don’t like masculine ladies," Clementine joked about it.

"Then why does he have lust in his eyes when he looks at you?" Allison asked, hitting the nail right on the head.

"Pardon?" Clementine asked; this caught her off guard as she didn’t expect this line of questioning.

"You people are unbelievable," Allison scoffed at how naive these people were.

"There is a reason why women use sex to manipulate men, it’s because they want to stick their dicks in every hole they see and you aren’t an exception..." Allison said but her tone implied that she was done with this conversation.

"She’s an interesting one..." Clementine thought to herself.

She opted to use the day to rest but she also had to keep an eye on Allison so that meant she couldn’t fall asleep until Allison did.

-

Jason was enjoying Rachel’s company, there was something about her that he had never experienced with any other woman.

He didn’t know what it was but being around her was equivalent to a soothing melody that could only be heard by his heart.

Rachel soon broke free from his embrace as she took a deep breath, Jason wondered why she did that but he quickly remembered the incident when he touched her before and she flinched.

There was none of that this time, did this mean she was more comfortable with him?

These were the least of their problems as Rachel began heading back to her room.

"You should get some rest, Jason. You don’t look too hot," Rachel said before closing the door behind him.

"I would rather sleep with you..." Jason thought to himself but realized that his thoughts weren’t exclusive to him anymore.

[Really Jason... Really?]

"Shut the fuck up Chronos! And you have a lot of things to answer!" Jason barked inwardly.

[What questions do you have?] Chronos asked.

"What the hell did you make me do back in the camp?" Jason asked.

[Chronos isn’t your enemy. I’m a system and this world is a game and like every game, the player is given choices that could either doom or save the world. You have been given the role of a main character but even in games, some scenes play out that are out of the player’s control. An example of this is cut scenes, the only thing they can control is the aftermath of each trial you go through only makes you stronger.]

Jason was surprised by how brutally honest Chronos was, now that he thought about it.

Chronos has never lied to him but there was something that remained on his mind.

"What is your objectvie Chronos?" Jason asked outright.

[I wish to become whole again.]
