Chapter 155: The Past Catches Up!
Chapter 155: The Past Catches Up!
Allison and Bella were doing their job, they could hear the whispers as a rumour was flying around that they were the ones responsible for the wall commander’s attack so they could take over the community.
This started harmless but eventually, people began to believe it when they saw that the ladies were making adjustments to the defense.
Allison could care less as long as they stayed in line, she didn’t care about their opinion.
However, Bella understood the importance of public opinion and what this might do to their image.
She had to de-escalate the situation and she was going to try her best to do just that.
However, the ladies were saved by the return of the man who led the raiders, they came back with a lot fewer numbers than they left with but they could clearly see that they didn’t come back empty-handed.
The gate swung open and it was Allison’s job to welcome the man that they didn’t even know his name.
"Don’t piss him off," Bella warned her, she had to compose herself because this would be the man to bring stability back to the community.
He was respected no doubt seeing as he was in charge of the people who made sure they didn’t starve to death, that responsibility alone would be too much pressure for anyone else.
"What is going on? Where’s Michael?" The General asked and Allison had to rush to brief him.
"I’m afraid Michael has been hospitalized, sir," Allison said with her head slightly bowed.
"Who’re you?" The man asked, Allison could tell he was a bit tense but that wasn’t surprising considering that he was away for over a week.
"I’m Allison and the acting wall commander, sir," Allison responded sternly.
"Damn it, Mariam, what’re you thinking..." The man cussed under his breath, Allison heard him but she knew that she couldn’t do anything about how he felt about her but she could give a good first impression.
"We also came under attack by the undead and I have adjusted our defence to better fend off against them in the future," Allison said, hoping to score points.
"Huh?" The man responded but before the conversation could proceed any further.
Someone crept up behind him and whispered something in his ear, Allison watched in silence as she noticed the man’s calm exterior change.
Before returning his gaze to Allison, looking more surprised than threatening.
"Are you sure?" He asked and the person that whispered this thing in his ear nodded.
"You’re one of the recruits?" The man asked to which Allison nodded to confirm.
"I see... I apologize, I must be tired from my journey. I’m Dimitris, do you wish to brief me in my office?" Dimitris gave his name and Allison realized that whatever it was that was whispered in his ear was the one thing that changed his opinion of her.
"Uhm, sure," Allison responded before sneaking Bella a glance.
Bella gave her a thumbs up because Allison had outdone herself even though she didn’t do much.
Dimitris walked to his office with Allison following behind him, the others began to remove the goods they had gotten to keep in the storage.
Dimitris was supposed to brief Mariam the moment he came back but he was far too exhausted to do so right now and this was evident in his interaction with Allison.
-
Dimitris and Allison arrived at the office and Allison stood awkwardly the moment they were in.
She needed permission to sit because she didn’t want to get on his bad side.
That was the last thing she needed to do.
"Do the others know?" Dimitris asked Allison right off the bat and this question was broad.
"Pardon sir?" Allison responded but Dimitris charged at her with his hand ready to grab her throat but Allison’s superior reflexes kicked in as she ducked down.
"You dodged it..." Dimitris whispered and Allison at that moment knew she failed whatever test he had set up for her.
"Now I will ask again, do the others know?" Dimitris repeated but Allison wasn’t about to give herself away.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about..." Allison continued to pretend but this only made Dimitris sigh in disappointment, slowly retracting his hand.
"You’re a Specter..." Dimitris responded before sitting on his chair.
Allison was speechless, how could he tell by this; there was no way Mariam could have told him.
"Hold up... What if..." Allison thought, what if this was why he was interested in her?
What if it was Mariam who had sent this person to spill this information?
"How did you know?" Allison asked to which Dimitris responded by removing his shirt.
His body was chiselled, one would think his body was a descendant of the world’s greatest bodybuilder, his arms were so big that Allison knew he could crush her head between them.
But she saw a wound and she could recognize it due to the shape of that wound.
"What...?" Allison muttered in surprise.
"I didn’t recognize you, you have grown out your hair," Dimitris said and Allison’s eyes dilated in horror.
She reached to grab an object on his table and Dimitris didn’t even move an inch.
He just stared at her, this showed he didn’t see her as a threat.
"If you grab that, I promise you, you will die in the next minute," Dimitris’ voice sent chills down her spine as she froze in place.
She knew who this man was because they had come across him in the past but not just her.
She was with the strongest Specter, the man who led them alongside three other Specters including her.
The fact that Dimitris faced three Specters simultaneously and still lived showed his strength even though the wound should have claimed his life.
But for some miracle, Dimitris survived the injury inflicted on him by the strongest Specter.
The others didn’t join him because he told them not to, he wanted to handle Dimitris alone.
Allison retracted her hand as Dimitris wore his shirt back, he confirmed she was a Specter.
"You defended the wall, risked your life and minimized the casualties..." Dimitris said and Allison was now sure what he was told.
"I knew that there was only someone so reckless, the girl that charged right at me with her knife ready to take off my head," Dimitris said.
"What do you want to do? Kill me?" Allison asked, she knew she was at his mercy because if her identity was made public then there was no escaping it.
"I don’t care about your past, Allison. I want to know what happened to the wall commander," Dimitris said, changing the topic.
Allison was sure this was why he brought her to the office but she was wrong.
Allison took a deep breath and told him the same thing she had told Mariam earlier, this included the penicillin and how Mariam’s husband might have been afflicted by the same attack using their allergy against them.
This theory interested Dimitris and he took it a lot more seriously than Mariam because Dimitris also suspected something fishy was happening.
"Are you sure about this?" Dimitris asked, he knew that her being a Specter gave a certain credibility that he couldn’t give the others around him.
She was capable and this alone meant that she knew what she was doing.
"I’m certain and I have a feeling that this is just the beginning. Whoever it is, they aren’t done," Allison said.
The timeframe was in her favour as they hadn’t arrived when the first patient was admitted.
"I did find it strange that they couldn’t retrieve the bag..." Dimitris said.
This was to be expected, he was in charge of the raiders but he was a very busy man outside of that.
"The medicine bag that Jason retrieved?" Allison asked to which Dimitris nodded.
"Yes, that one. It has been missing for quite some time even though some say it made it within the walls," Dimitris said.
Something was going on and he didn’t like that he was left in the dark, some said the bag made it to the community as they even swore on it but they could have equally imagined it due to how exhausted they were.
This and they had a history of similar stories so they weren’t a reliable source of information.
It was dismissed but Dimitris always suspected that there might be truth to this.
However, he didn’t push it as he didn’t want to spook whoever might be in charge.
But this has only made them more daring as they didn’t even attempt to hide it, their goal was to throw the community into confusion.
"You’re the scapegoat..." Dimitris blurted out with a smile but Allison raised a brow.
"Pardon sir?" Allison questioned.
"Allison, I have a plan and I want you to trust me," Dimitris said but Allison was suspicious because she had no idea what it was that this man wanted from her.
There was no way she could trust him considering they had tried to kill him in the past but did she have a choice?
